Why?

Most of us know about the existing problems in our manufacturing systems today. From factory farming to recalled products, today’s consumer has to be pretty savvy to navigate all the obstacles.

The problem is, the information you need isn’t all on the label. The average consumer would need to do a lot of research about each individual product to be well informed.

The Big Picture

Scan the products you have at home, or search products and make a grocery list. The Etho app allows you to ‘favorite’ the products you like and see them all in the ‘list’ feature.

You can see related news & opt to avoid the companies, products or practices you feel are unacceptable. For example, you can choose to be alerted when you scan a product related to Monsanto, or containing GMOs.

The Etho app links complex information in a practical way so that you can support ethical business models.

Points System

Each product is rated compared to the others in its category. The example below placed 22nd. The product is rated by a point system: points are awarded for things like water conservation & recyclability, while things like high CO2 emissions & use of pesticides detract points.

Databases

The information used is taken from a number of non-profit, government & company databases.

Instant Information

Scan a product, search a brand name or browse product categories to get a condensed ecological, social & health rating. Find out how the product you were considering buying compares to others.

See the top rated products in the category you selected, and compare how their ratings break down. Be alerted to controversial ingredients, animal testing or questionable human rights practices.
